SailIQ

Frequently asked questions · SailIQ

Here are answers to common questions about the app, events, and live streaming.

Account and access

Do I need an account to use SailIQ?

Yes. To participate in events, save your sessions, and appear in live streams, you need an account. Registration is free and only requires a valid email address.

I don't see my events in the app, what could be happening?

You will only see events in the app that you joined with your user and that have been approved by the organizer. If you think an event is missing, make sure you're using the same email you registered with or contact your club.

Navigation and modes

What's the difference between Cruise mode and Dinghy (Light Sail) mode?

Cruise mode is designed for saved routes, tracking your path and speed on longer sails. Dinghy mode is optimized for navigation, starts, and short races, with metrics focused on angles and performance.

Can I use SailIQ without being in a regatta?

Yes. You can use Cruise mode to record your free sailing without being tied to an event. In those cases there will be no public streaming and your data will stay in your account.

Events and streaming

When does my boat appear on the live map?

Your boat appears on the map when three conditions are met: you are joined and approved in the event, the event is marked as Live by the organizer, and you started a sailing session from that event in the app.

If the event has ended, can I watch the replay?

Yes. If the event had streaming, the streaming page will show the last session by default as a Replay, with full tracks of participating boats.

Data and privacy

What data is sent during a live race?

During a live event, position (latitude/longitude), speed, heading, and timestamp are sent to the server. This data is used to show your boat on the map, generate the replay, and compute event metrics.

Can I sail without sharing my data publicly?

Yes. If you sail outside of events or in events not marked as Live, there will be no public streaming. The event organizer controls whether a race is broadcast.

App and support

The app is slow or the position isn't updating well, what can I do?

Check that you have good GPS coverage and a stable data connection. Closing and reopening the app often helps if the device hasn't been restarted in a while. If the problem persists, send us a message from Contact including your iPhone model and app version.

How can I send feedback or report a problem?

From the iOS app you can use the Contact section to message us directly. You can also contact your club organizer if the issue is related to a specific event.
